Welcome to Cloud Camp 2018!

Hi all, Aidan Finn here from MicroWarehouse. I’m delight to start talking about an even we’ve been talking about doing for about 18 months, but we finally started working on earlier this summer.
Cloud Camp is a big event running bringing together some of the greatest minds on Microsoft cloud and on-premises technologies to the Convention Centre Dublin on October 17th. This is a rare event in Ireland – so rare that I cannot recall anything like it. Normally you’d have to travel to the UK or further to get this concentration of Microsoft expertise on one building.
Most of the speakers are Microsoft Valuable Professionals (MVPs) with a relevant expertise – and some of the non-MVPs are likely to become MVPs. In case you don’t know what an MVP is, here’s a summary Microsoft’s MVP site:
Microsoft Most Valuable Professionals, or MVPs, are technology experts who passionately share their knowledge with the community. They are always on the “bleeding edge” and have an unstoppable urge to get their hands on new, exciting technologies. They have very deep knowledge of Microsoft products and services, while also being able to bring together diverse platforms, products and solutions, to solve real world problems.
I’m lucky to count myself as an MVP – there aren’t many of us. There are around 15 of us in Ireland. The speakers are coming from around Europe, and further, bring a wide variety of skills and backgrounds.
The sessions are split across four tracks:
- Azure infrastructure: virtual machines, networking, and that stuff.
- Azure platform: focusing on code and data.
- Productivity and security: Office 365 and Microsoft’s security services.
- Windows Server 2019 and Hybrid: Adding value to on-premises investments.
That last track is a big one because this is our unofficial launch of Windows Server 2019 which will probably be released in September or October.
We have a few special speakers joining us too. Kartik Pullabhotla is a program manager for Azure Backup and is flying in from the product group in India. Kartik’s session will be about how Azure Backup adds value for on-premises Windows and VMware investments, and I expect he’ll cover some Windows 2019 news too.
We also have a couple of special guest flying in from the USA to do our closing keynote. Top tech journalists and Microsoft watcher, Mary Jo Foley and Paul Thurrott will be talking about what’s happening in Microsoft today and what we can expect in the future. And if you watch/listen to the Windows Weekly podcast, then we have a surprise for you. We’re planning on hosting the live recording here in Dublin a few hours after Cloud Camp just a few minutes’ walk away from the convention centre. I cannot wait!
So, who should attend Cloud Camp 2018? Yes, the speakers are all techies. And yes, the sessions will be technical. But there’s only so much deep tech you can do in 1 hour. These sessions will suit techies wanting to learn more, but sales/managers/CTOs/etc will learn a lot here too. What you already knew about Microsoft or cloud before you started reading this post is already out date by the time you reached here! Continuous learning and awareness raising has never been more important if you have anything to do with the IT business.
